Creating a minimalist home goes hand in hand with becoming organized and clutter free. To have a minimalistic home means to live very simply and to be free of any excess junk that could be lying around. Minimalism has become a trending topic because, like organizing, it comes with tons of benefits to improve your lifestyle and your home. Though for some people, getting rid of excess junk could seem almost impossible, that’s why we created this 5-step guide on how to begin making your home a minimalistic one.

1. Room by room. Don’t overwhelm yourself by looking at the home as a whole, instead start off simply by picking one room and going on to the next. This is all about becoming stress free!

2. Bare Essentials. Becoming a minimalist means ridding yourself of things you no longer need or that serve no purpose to you anymore. Go through each room and observe the furniture, the knick-knacks and everything else in the room and ask yourself “Do I really need this?” if the answer is anything but, “yes!” toss it out!

3. Out of Sight Storage. Still have quite a bit of stuff even after step two? All you have to do now is find some extra storage space that is out of sight for the things you couldn’t quite get rid of, but should still be out of the way. Organization bins are an easy go-to for some extra hidden storage under your bed.

4. Clear your walls, surfaces, and floors. Being minimalistic also means keeping things simple. Surfaces like desks and counters should only have two or three simple things on them, floors should be clear of all things except the furniture and walls should have only the simplest of art on them, if any at all.

5. Relax and enjoy. Now that you’ve completed steps 1-4 the rest comes easy. Now sit back and let your new and improved minimalistic home create the stress free, relaxing environment you’ve always dreamed your home would have.
